A man cave is a safe haven and a retreat space. It is important that you make it as comfortable as possible and at the same time not too comfortable so that you don’t stay there all day. Yes, that’s right. A man cave is not to encourage you to withdraw from your family. Instead, it should just be a relaxation spot for you and maybe your friends when they come over.
A man cave ensures that you have a fun time without disruption, a place where you can unwind and chill with your favorite things, be it watching sports or playing games. We will discuss some things you can put in your man cave to ensure good relaxation times alone or with the boys.
This will be a general list of things that can be in your man cave. It does not mean that you must have them in your man cave, but many items on this list will make it to your man cave. But before that, there are some things you need to consider before you decide the things you want to put in your man cave.
What to Consider Before Putting Things in a Man Cave
Space
The first thing you need to consider is how much space is available in your man cave. You don’t want an area so filled up that you can’t even move around the room easily without making contact with an item. So, before you move that item in, you should visualize where you want it to stay in the room and see how well it fits into the room.
If it doesn’t take up more space than is available, then maybe it should stay. However, you may want to consider some other things before you move it in.
Use
The use of an item is the most important deciding factor. However, it is just as equally important as space. If an item is useful but can’t fit into the available space, there is no choice but to put it somewhere else. Also, you need to rate useful items in order of priority before allocating space to each item.
Less essential items may not make it into your man cave, or they get to come in when the use for another item has expired. In any way, it is essential to consider how useful things are necessary to the purpose of your man cave.
Aesthetics
This may be less important than the other factors discussed. However, we can all agree that when things are oddly placed, they can be upsetting. If you like your place organized, you may want to put aesthetics as an equally important factor in deciding items you would like to put in your man cave.
That art with colors contrasting to the paint on your walls will not look nice inside your man cave. If something doesn’t flow with the decor, then, you are probably better off putting it outside or getting another one.
Things to Put in a Man Cave
Recliner
This is an important relaxation item, and that’s why it has made this list. Even if you have a small space, a recliner will fit in just right.
Chairs
Where do you want to sit in your man cave if you don’t have a chair? What about your friends when they come to visit? Chairs are essential in a man cave.
TV
How else would you catch up with sports or your favorite sitcoms when you are relaxing in your man cave. Many men would like to host their friends on games night while you argue sports. You sure can’t do that staring at the walls of your man cave, can you?
Bar and Fridge
This is obviously to store your drinks, so you don’t have to go to the kitchen each time you need a new drink. You only need to grab one from your bar or fridge. If you have enough space in your man cave, you can have the two. Otherwise, the fridge can serve as both bar and fridge.
Game
You should have something you can use to play in your man cave. A pool table or poker table is not a bad idea if you have space for it. These games can be played with your friends when they come around. A dartboard is another nice item that you can put in your man cave. Board games like Scrabble and chess don’t take up big spaces and can be placed in the corner to be played whenever the boys are around.
When to Stop Putting Things in Your Man Cave
You will be surprised how many people don’t know when to stop. We will talk about three scenarios when you should know you are already overdoing things. The first thing is when you notice your man cave has turned into your workplace and bedroom, once you have moved all comforts to your man cave. This may adversely affect your relationship with other members of your home, and you should watch out for such signs.
The second one is related to the first, and that’s when you find yourself removing significant items from your living room and or bedroom to fill your man cave. That may be a selfish move in a shared space. Also, if you find yourself spending beyond your limits just to set up your man cave to taste, you may need to reconsider if that is not a sign of obsession.
How to Source Things to Put in a Man Cave?
You will often notice that you already have some of the things you need to start your man cave setup, and all you have to do is move them in there. Items such as recliners and some extra furniture lying around the house are the first items you can move to your man cave. Another way you can source for items is by asking your family and friends if they have an extra ‘this’ or an idle ‘that’ in their house. Then you arrange to bring them down to your man cave.
